Marco Rubio - Senior Senator for Florida, 2011-2022

Senator Rubio has received a C+ for his decent but not exceptional support of neuroscience funding. While his support of Alzheimer’s research is encouraging, we are concerned by his interest in interfering with international NIH collaborations. We could not find a clear quote that expressed his opinions on NIH funding, which is additionally concerning given his high-profile role on the Committee on Appropriations, including the NIH and NSF governing subcommittees.

Rick Scott - Junior Senator for Florida, 2019-2024

Senator Scott receives our C- grade for generally no clear opinion on neuroscience funding. Despite acting as CEO for a large healthcare in the 1990’s, Senator Scott does not have any clear opinions on NIH funding, and has not joined the NIH caucus or signed any dear colleague letter. We are concerned that he is a member of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions which recommends NIH funding levels, and has not clearly supported increases.
